Duplicate content – Definition
The duplicate content is content that will show presence on more than one domain or URL in the web world. The duplicate content can be considered two types:
Same domain – If the content is found more than once in a same domain with a slight modification or no modification can be considered as a duplicate content.
Different domains – If the content is found on more domains with a complete match or seems similar to the other content, then it will be considered as a duplicate content.

Duplicate content – Example
Examples of non-malicious duplicate contents by the Google support could include:
- Discussion forums that can generate both regular and stripped-down pages targeted at mobile devices
- Store items shown or linked via multiple distinct URLs
- Printer-only versions of web pages – It will cause a problem, when multiple version of the pages gets indexed.
Duplicate content – How to handle?
Own Content– You can create your unique content or try to avoid copying the other content. If you will avoid doing such things, you can stop its origin with ease.
Redirect – The use of permanent redirects will help search spiders to understand the page has been deleted or moved permanently, and they have to remove old URL and index the new URL.
No index – Use the no index value in the Meta tag to stop search engines to index unwanted pages by yourself.
Canonicalization – This the important way of avoiding duplicate content. You can use rel=canonical that will work same like the permanent redirect. When the search spiders will find this link element, it will transfer the link value to the canonical page.
Preferred Domain – Just try to avoid confusion from the search spider’s way of considering www.sharplesson.com or http://sharplesson.com. If you will tell your preferred one, then probably it will help you to counter duplicate content.
Consistent internal linking – Well, you can’t be choosy while putting internal links. Let’s say for example, if your canonical version is http://sharplesson.com, then you can’t link sometimes http://www.sharplesson.com and sometimes with http://sharplesson.com. Just maintain the consistent use of the one format.
Proper Syndication – Syndicate your content with caution, make sure you will link back to your original content.
